Men’s Soccer Falters on the Road

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team took to the field on Saturday for a mid-afternoon match against the Purple Raiders of the University of Mount Union. In the end, Mount Union had the upper hand, as the Comets fell 3-1.

With the loss, the Comets are now 2-8-2 overall with a 1-3-1 record within the OAC.

Mount Union moves to 8-2-4 with a 3-1-1 conference record.

Mount Union pulled soundly into the lead with back-to-back goals late into a fairly quiet first half. The first was scored in the 41st minute and the second in the 44th minute. Heading into the break, the Comets faced a two-goal deficit. That deficit was cut down to one shortly into the second half via a score by Zade Awad. Unfortunately, that would be the first and last of the Capital goals in the game.

Mount Union went on to score another in the 87th to cement a victory for the Purple Raiders, 3-1.

Capital took just six shots in the game, led by Jacob Deever with three.

Awad's goal is his second of the season and came off of his only shot attempt.

Alex Spiers and Mujahid Abdel-Ghani made up the remaining chances for the Comets.

Connor Sexton played the full 90 minutes in goal, making three saves.
