Bernhardt, Slattery Move Up All-Time Lists

POWELL, Ohio -- On Friday evening, the Capital University cross country programs sent a small contingent of runners to the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio.

There, several quality performances were put forth by those who ran, including improved positioning on the Top-20 All-Time Performance List for both Donovan Slattery on the men's side and for Eva Bernhardt on the women's side.

MEN
Not only did Slattery better his own personal best, but he nearly won the men's 8K race as he finished the run in third overall, just 15 seconds from the top finisher. Donovan's time registered 26:20.3, which improves his previous best of 26:24.7 -- run last time out at Cedarville. The time only helps him gain a better hold on 8th all-time in program history on the 8K course. He's now just six seconds off Denny West's 26:14, which currently sits 7th best.

The two Zach's finished just three seconds apart from each other further down the leaderboard. First, Zach Brown finished in a time of 30:01.5. Then, Zach Glotzbecker crossed the line with a time of 30:04.9.

Not far behind the Zach's was Sam Siedel rounding out the Comet men. Siedel finished with a time of 31:23.8.

WOMEN
Eva Bernhardt paced the women's side as she etched her name on the women's top-20 6K list with a time of 24:57.6, which is good enough to sit her 13th best in program history. The time surpasses Emily Zapp's 25:08 ran in 2009. Bernhardt is just two seconds behind Sarah Trick's 12th best time of 24:52. Bernhardt's time was good enough to place her 15th in the field of competition and marked a new PR by more than a minute. Eva did run a sub-25 race once before at the Great Lakes Regional event, but that time is not official due to the course being shortened several hundred meters at the finish due to mud.

The next Comet woman to finish was Elizabeth Mak. She crossed the line with a time of 26:17.9, good for 31st overall. The time marked her new PR by more than a minute as well.

Allison Costanzo rounded out the women's performances with a time of 28:23.5 over the 6K course. Much like Bernhardt's PR, this time is Costanzo's new best on a true 6K course. She previous had run under 28 minutes, but it came on a shortened course at the regional event.

The Capital cross country teams will now focus on training for the Oberlin Inter-Region Rumble on Saturday, October 15th.
