WESTERVILLE, Ohio –  On Monday afternoon, the Ohio Athletic Conference announced that Bailey Lach was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week in men's soccer. 

Lach, a senior outside defender for Capital University's men's soccer team, started two games this past week and helped lead the team to a 2-0 record while shutting out their opponent and scoring nine goals in the effort. They are now 4-0 on the year. 

First, Capital defeated Oberlin by a 5-0 margin in midweek action. Lach logged 80 minutes against the Yeomen and contributed an assist on the team's fourth goal of the game. On the weekend, Lach once again started and logged 77 minutes of action in Capital's 4-0 drubbing over Washington & Jefferson. Lach was dynamic all game along as he shut down the Presidents' offense on the outside and pushed forward to get three shots off (two on goal) and contribute two assists on the team's second half goals. 

So far this year, Capital's defense has allowed just one goal -- in the final minute of their season opening win over Defiance. Since conceding that goal, Capital has yet to allow a goal in their last 270 minutes of action. Considering the goalkeeping quartet of Kellen Sargent, Connor Sexton, Brady Frydl and Landon Hoehn have only collected a combined 11 saves in the past three games, the defensive back four deserves much of the credit for limiting the offensive pressure thrust their way. In addition to Lach's performance, fellow starters Matt Scheper, Colton Daugherty and Jarrett Puckett have been incredibly important to those defensive efforts. 

Lach will look to keep the defensive prowess up and continue the shutout streak as he will lead the team onto the field next at Denison University on Tuesday, September 14th. Kickoff in Granville is scheduled for 7 p.m.
