WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team concluded their 2021 spring season with a 2-1 loss on the road to Wilmington College on Tuesday evening. The Quakers avenged for a 3-1 decision last week in Columbus against Capital.
The loss puts Capital at 4-6 in what has proven to be a crazy season.
Despite holding the upper hand on pressure in the first half, the Crusaders were breached first as Wilmington grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute. Ian Molfenter finished off an assist from Ryan Forino to push the Quakers to the halftime advantage.
Capital leveled things up in the 57th minute off the foot of
Jack Francisco.
Jack Kossoudji took a shot that was saved by Quaker goalie Felix Mauer. Unfortunately for Mauer, he was unable to hold on as Francisco cleaned up the loose ball to level the score at one. The goal capped off a memorable freshman campaign for Francisco who finishes the year with six goals.
Wilmington took just 10 minutes to restore their advantage as Yusef Muqtadir finished off a feed from Zach Burgmeier.
The lead stood as the Quakers closed out what proved to be quite a physical contest. In all, the game saw 22 total fouls, four yellow cards and one red card.
Crusader goalie,
Kellen Sargent finished the game with four saves, while Mauer stopped six shots for Wilmington.
