ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University men's golf team went back to work on Monday, March 29, at the Muskingum Invitational, held at the Zanesville Country Club.
Andrew Simpson continued the strong start to his Capital career by once again placing inside the top-5 on the individual leaderboard, aiding the Crusaders to a third-place team finish.
Capital, now in its third consecutive day competing following a busy weekend at the Purple & White Invitational, engaged in another 18-hole tournament and placed third overall (308). Pacing the Crusaders was freshman
Andrew Simpson, who carded a single-round score of 2-over par, 74. Simpson nailed four birdies, including a pair on par-5 holes, to lead to a share of a third-place overall finish.
Shane Murphy and
Vince Daher wrapped up their rounds with match 77s to place them just outside of the top-10, sharing 11
th overall. Rounding out the Capital scorecard was Sunday's event winner, freshman
Ben Satterthwaite (80), who placed 18
th.
Adam Czerniakowski served as the five-man and shot an 18-hole score of 87.
Host Muskingum took the event's team title with a 302. Otterbein sat back two shots from Muskingum while Capital came in third six shots off the pace. Marietta's Gage Herb (70) took top medalist honors to help the Pioneers (311) to fourth place, while Ohio Northern University (314) rounded out the team standings.
Capital will next compete on Sunday, April 11 at the OAC Preview event, held at River Greens Golf Club in West Lafayette, Ohio. Muskingum will serve as host to the 27-hole event.
