COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team saw its season come to an end at the hands of the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets on Tuesday evening. Third-seeded Baldwin Wallace downed sixth-seeded CU, 71-52, at Ursprung Gymnasium in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.
EARLY TONE SETTERS
- Baldwin Wallace's Sydney Snyder opened the contest with a 3-point basket, which also helped fuel a 9-2 Yellow Jacket run over the opening five minutes.
- Kaylee Cyphers answered Snyder's triple to open the game, but CU then missed its next seven field goal attempts while Baldwin Wallace opened up a seven-point lead.
- Capital's next points would come with 5:13 remaining when senior Allison Roach hit a pair of free throws after being fouled but the Crusaders would stay locked in on nine points until Demi Brewer's layup nearly four minutes later.
- While Capital struggled on the offensive end, shooting just 33.3 percent (4-12) from the field, Baldwin Wallace grew its lead to nine going into the first break.
FIGHTING BACK
- Capital picked up two points on Baldwin Wallace as both teams shot 30 percent or lower in the second quarter. The difference came from the free-throw line, where the Crusaders went 8-for-9.
- Baldwin Wallace saw its lead drop to just five points with 3:41 remaining in the second quarter but Lilly Edwards dropped in six points to help BW grow its lead back to seven heading into halftime.
- Sophomore guard Erika Linder scored 10 of her career-high 18 points in the second quarter, hitting 3-of-4 shot attempts, including one 3-pointer in the frame. She was the only CU player to hit a field goal in the second.
- Baldwin Wallace outscored Capital 20-12 in the third stanza by turning it on in their offensive zone. They hit 8-of-17 (47.1%) of its shot attempts and four 3-pointers to build a comfortable double-digit lead.
- While Cap shot its best in the fourth quarter, percentage-wise, they were unable to stop Baldwin Wallace from matching and exceeding their offensive performance. Cap hit 40 percent (6-15) of its field-goal attempts while BW shot a game-best 61.5 percent (8-13).
THE FINAL NUMBERS
- Linder scored a team-best 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting and added a 7-for-9 performance from the charity stripe. She also accounted for a team-high four rebounds and three steals, plus two assists.
- Cyphers joined Linder as the only other Cap player to score in double figures, posting 11 points.
- Edwards matched Linder with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and completed the double-double effort with 11 rebounds, as well. She was one of three Yellow Jackets to score 10 or more points in the game.
- Between Edwards, Megan Scheibelhut and Gabby Garrett, the trio shot 15-for-22 (xxx) and 13-for-13 from the free-throw line.

Capital Women's Basketball finishes the season with an overall record of 5-6 as its season comes to a close, also marking to conclusion to the careers of seniors
Allison Roach and
Caroline Taphorn.
Taphorn finishes her career with 634 points, 290 assists, 244 rebounds, 126 steals, and 39 blocks over her four years in which she played 84 games.
In 59 games, Roach scored 130 points, 62 of those coming this season as her role expanded into the starting lineup. She collected 37 rebounds and 33 assists over the course of her career.
