COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Capital University women's basketball team hosted the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears on Saturday afternoon, dropping the game 37-66.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Comets got out to an early lead, but were not able to sustain it, falling behind in the first quarter. In the second quarter Capital was stifled by two long runs from ONU, and headed to the locker room facing a considerable deficit. In the third quarter Capital's shooting improved, hitting 40 percent of their shots. Led by freshman guard
Laney Murphy, who had half the team's points in the quarter, the Comets were able to make small cuts into the Polar Bear lead. However, a strong finish by ONU in the fourth kept CU at bay and Capital would come up short in the end.
THE NUMBERS
Laney Murphy led the Comets in scoring with 14 points, shooting 5-of-11 from the field with three three-pointers. She also led the team in rebounds with four, sharing that title with fellow freshman
Nicole Flock and senior
Brooke Ommert. Murphy also had two steals.
Nicole Flock had seven points to add to her previously noted four rebounds. She shot 3-for-6 from the field for an even 50 percent. Flock also had two assists and one steal.
