FULL CoSIDA RELEASE

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- On Thursday afternoon, CoSIDA (the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America) released the Academic All-District awards for men's soccer. Featured on the list as a First Team honoree was Capital University's own Mitch Hughes. 

This award recognizes student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First team All-District selections advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. A first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America will be announced in early December. 

According to records, Mitch Hughes is the first Capital men's soccer player to earn the CoSIDA Academic All-District, in the award's 20-year history. 

On the field this season, Mitch played in and started 13 matches before an injury ended his season prematurely. In those games, Mitch logged 1,129 minutes of play, two goals, and four assists. As the team's leader in the midfield, Hughes primarily found himself facilitating possession for the team. 

Earlier this morning, Mitch was named as an All-OAC Second Team selection -- the third such award of his career. 

Off the field, Mitch is in his senior year, pursuing a degree in biology. He holds a cumulative GPA of 3.96. He has been named as an Academic All-Conference selection as well for his work in the classroom. 

As a First Team Academic All-District, Mitch will now move on to the Academic All-America ballot. Winners of that distinction will be announced in early December.
