WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- On Monday afternoon, the Ohio Athletic Conference released another edition of their athletes of the week, and featured this week for Capital University is men's soccer freshman and super-sub Devon Hess. 

A three-goal week for Hess earned him the conference's Offensive Player of the Week honor. So far this season, Hess is Capital's third player of the week as both Bailey Lach and Brady Frydl have previously been selected as the defensive player of the week. 

On Wednesday against Marietta, Hess came off the bench in the 29th minute of play and made an instant impact. In the 43rd minute, Hess took a pass from Veron Fongeh and scored Capital's third goal of the game. Out of the half, Hess stayed on the pitch and with great effect. In the 55th minute, he received a pass from Jack Francisco and deposited his shot to the back post for his second goal of the game and the team's final insurance tally in a convincing 4-0 win. 

On Saturday night, Hess once again came off the bench to make his impact on the game. Trailing 1-0, Cap was in need of a goal and Hess delivered in style. In the 71st minute, Mitch Hughes flicked a ball onto Hess, who took one touch and swiveled a volley over the head of Mount Union goalkeeper Tyler Venti to level the score. The tally was enough to lead Capital to a draw after 110 minutes of action. 

All-in-all, Hess played a combined 78 minutes in the two matches this past week and scored three goals on three total shot attempts. The goals were also the first three of the freshman's collegiate career.

Super-sub Hess will look to keep his new-found offensive form going as he helps the team to two more OAC contests this week. First, Capital will host Muskingum University for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday night before traveling to Ohio Northern for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Saturday night.
