COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team played a great game on the hardwood, taking on the number one team in the OAC in Baldwin Wallace and holding with them for most of the game before falling 60-52. Following the game, the team celebrated the careers of five graduating seniors; Cassidy Bosch, Sam Sech, Elli Wachtman, Regan Stonerock, and Addie Becker; who donned the Purple and White for the last time in the Capital Center. Bosch posted her first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 boards in her Cap Center farewell.
OFF TO A GREAT START
- The Yellow Jackets struck first but the Crusaders held tough in the opening minutes, stifling the offense and keeping it close enough to take a lead with two Emma Burns free throws at the 3:38 mark at 9-8.
- As the first quarter wound down, Capital started to build a lead, taking a 5-point advantage into the second quarter.
- In the second quarter, the Crusaders lead pushed as high as seven points before untimely fouls allowed the Yellow Jackets to gain back the momentum.
- Baldwin Wallace was able to regain the lead with five minutes left in the half but it would not hold for long.
- In the ensuing minutes before halftime, each team gained leads only to see them dissipate shortly thereafter. With three seconds until the break, Caroline Taphorn drained a jumper to bring the Crusaders within one at 28-27.
LAST GO AROUND
- Out of the break, the game remained close as both teams made tough shots, with a Burns jumper putting Capital back on top 34-33 at the 7:47 mark.
- Baldwin Wallace would then go on a run of their own to take the advantage 45-39 at the end of the quarter.
- The Yellow Jackets continued to shove the lead as the final quarter opened, creating an 11 point deficit with 8:50 to play.
- Down 11, the Crusaders did not flinch scoring nine unanswered points, starting with a Regan Stonerock jumper-and-one and ending with a Taphorn jump shot that cut the lead to two points with under three minutes to play.
- That would be as close as the score would get however as Baldwin Wallace would keep the advantage to the final buzzer, winning 60-52.
