Capital Drops Physical Match Against Transylvania

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team took on the Transylvania University Pioneers on Sunday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.

Transylvania (3-2-4) got on the board early in the match as Tyler Joy-Brandon assisted midfielder Riley Calhoon in scoring his first goal of the season in the match's third minute. Junior forward Blake Chidester added to the lead after he took advantage of an overaggressive goal keeper, chipping the ball into an unguarded goal.

Tension was high throughout the second half as six yellow cards were issued in a seven-minute span, three by each team.

Capital (2-6) midfielder Jacob Pulliam (Westerville, Ohio) made the match's final minutes interesting after beating Transylvania's goalkeeper on a penalty kick.

The Pioneer defense finished strong, allowing only one shot in the final few minutes to seal the victory.

Capital was unable to get its offensive attack going, despite its 25-12 shot advantage. The Crusaders also had 12 corner kicks, compared to the Pioneers' four.

Freshman goalkeeper Logan Wiedmann (Cincinnati, Ohio) dropped his first career start, playing all 90 minutes. Transylvania's goalkeeper Cody Waltrip improves to 2-2-4 on the season, making 10 saves.

With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-6 as they prepare to hit the road to take on the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops on Wednesday, September 30 at 7 p.m.
