Men's Soccer Unable to Come Back From Early Deficit

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team fell to Ohio Northern University in an early afternoon match at Bernlohr Stadium. The Polar Bears got out to an early lead and never let up, winning 2-0.

The Crusaders again found themselves falling behind early as the Polar Bears controlled the opening minutes with goals from Austin Horton in the second minute and Patrick Sabol in the eighth minute, both on well-placed shots against Capital keeper Trevor Funk.

The pace was controlled by the Polar Bears during the first half. Ohio Northern outshot the Crusaders 9-3.

For Capital, it was a tale of two halves as the Crusaders eventually found their composure and gave the Polar Bears a fight to the very end. Capital almost doubled their opponents' in shot attempts at 11-6 during this period.

Despite two early goals, Funk managed to make five straight saves to keep the Polar Bears off of the board over the remaining 91 minutes of play. Sophomore Calvin Saunders led the Crusaders offense with three shot attempts, two of which landed on frame.

The Crusaders (5-8-1, 3-1-1 OAC) will be back out on the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 20 evening at 7 p.m. when they face Marietta College at Marietta Field.
