Box Score ADA, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team displayed its shooting struggles in its 60-40 road loss to Ohio Northern University, Saturday afternoon.
Simmone Gage (Dayton, Ohio) led the Crusaders with nine points while adding four steals and a pair of assists.
Capital (8-9 overall, 4-6 OAC) and Ohio Northern (13-4 overall, 9-1 OAC) battled back and forth in a low-scoring affair, leading to a 16-14 game in favor of the hosts. The Polar Bears then began to break away when Jordan Kimes made buckets in three straight ONU possessions to help build an eight-point lead. She went on to score another basket as part of a 14-5 run to end the half.
The Crusaders were unable to overcome the 30-19 halftime deficit due to an afternoon in which the team shot 25.8 percent from the field overall, and just 1-for-13 (.077) from behind the arc. The Polar Bears also won the battle of the boards by outrebounding Capital 44-30.
The loss places Capital in sixth place in the most current Ohio Athletic Conference standings. They will regroup and play Wilmington College on Wednesday, Jan. 28 from inside the Capital Center. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Earlier this season, the Quakers defeated Capital, 61-52, at Fred Raizk Arena. In that game, Shelby Sheets led the Crusaders with 18 while they held Wilmington to just 36.8 percent shooting from the field.
With the Crusaders' next win, head coach Dixie Jeffers will tie legendary coaching great Dick Reynolds for all-time career wins by an OAC coach (653).
