Roux Scores in Overtime, Extends Win Streak to Four

Box Score

COLUMBUS – The Capital University men's soccer team again received late game heroics in Saturday's 4-3 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over cross-town rival Otterbein at Bernlohr Stadium.

Capital (8-4 overall, 3-0 OAC) extended its win streak to four games, including victories in six of its last seven matches.

Senior midfielder R.G. Florey (Westerville) tallied the game's first goal in the 22nd minute of play, scoring off an assist from sophomore forward Cheyn Roux (Davidson, N.C.) following a corner kick.

Capital then increased its lead to 2-0 just two minutes later, as freshman forward Josh McDaniel (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied his first goal of the season off an assist from classmate in midfielder Jacob Pulliam (Westerville, Ohio).

Otterbein then responded with its first score of the game in the 28th minute, narrowing its deficit to one goal heading into halftime. At the half, the Crusaders held a 10-7 shot advantage over the Cardinals.

In the second half, another quick set of scoring runs were manufactured by both teams, as the Cardinals tied the game at two goals apiece in 55th minute of play.

Less than 10 seconds later, junior Mario Suarez (Strongsville, Ohio) found freshman forward Calvin Saunders (Clemmons, N.C.), who netted a shot from 15 yards out, sailing the ball over the head of the Otterbein goalkeeper.

The Cardinals again evened the score at three goals apiece in the 63rd minute, scoring off a rebounded shot in the box.

Neither team managed to score for the remaining 27 minutes of play in regulation, as the game was forced into overtime, tied at three goals apiece.

Two minutes into the overtime period, McDaniel found Roux on a cross for the decisive goal, lifting the Crusaders over the Cardinals, 4-3.

The overtime victory was the second of the season for Capital, as they last proved victorious in double overtime at Transylvania (Ky.) on Sept. 20.

With the win, the Crusaders are now set to travel to Wilmington on Oct. 14 for a 7 p.m. first kick in Wilmington, Ohio.
