COLUMBUS – Capital University's men's soccer team hosted Hiram College on Wednesday evening in its fourth non-conference matchup of the season.
Neither team could manufacture a goal in the first half of play, a half that was delayed in the twenty-ninth minute for nearly an hour due to severe weather.
Perhaps the closest chance for the Crusaders came in the forty-first minute when senior Nick Eley attacked the goal on a bouncing ball, but to no avail, as the opportunity folded following a sliding save by the Terriers goalkeeper.
Heading into halftime, the Terriers held an 8-1 shot advantage, while the Crusaders saved all four shots on goal in the opening frame.
The second half proved to be much of the same on the scoring end, as six shots for Capital and two for Hiram resulted in zero goals, ending a scoreless game at 0-0 in regulation due to darkness.
Leading the way for the Crusaders was senior Bob Weisgarber who saved all four shots on goal that he faced.
Eley led the team in shots with five, three of them coming on goal, while freshman Jacob Pulliam tallied two shots.
Six additional players recorded a shot on the night for the Crusaders attack.
Next match for Capital (2-0-2) is against Defiance College on Sept. 14 at 3 p.m.
