UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - The Capital University women's basketball team fell to John Carroll on the road Saturday afternoon, 74-68, suffering its first Ohio Athletic Conference loss of the season.

Senior forward Jamie Caton (Hilliard, Ohio) led the Crusaders in scoring, totaling 17 points on a seven of 13 shooting mark, while fellow classmate in guard Cookie Geroski (Fostoria, Ohio) followed with a double-double at 16 points and 11 rebounds, accompanying six assists.

The Blue Streaks took a 12 point lead into halftime, following the beginning of a 15 to eight run which ended the opening half.

Capital battled back in the second half of play, cutting the deficit to a two possession game multiple times in the final half, where with just under five minutes to play in regulation, the Crusaders trailed by only four points.

However, timely baskets and free throw efficieny led to the Blue Streaks claiming a six point victory over the Crusaders.

Sophomore guard Jenna Erwin (Springfield, Ohio) followed Caton and Geroski in the scoring margins, recording nine points on three of five shooting, while fellow sophomore guard Nina Napolitano (Akron, Ohio) checked in with six points.

Junior center Monica Heckman (Pitsburg, Ohio) chipped in six points and six rebounds.

In total, both teams matched one another in field goal percentage, tallying a 40.3 percent shooting mark, while John Carroll converted on 21 of 27 free throws as opposed to Capital's mark of 12 of 16.

With the loss, Capital (6-4 overall, 3-1 OAC) sits in second place in the OAC standings, along with Baldwin Wallace, as they prepare for the 2014 portion of its schedule. 

The Crusaders' first game of the New Year will take place on Jan. 4 at 3 p.m. at Mount Union.
