ADA, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team upset No. 20 Ohio Northern, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon in the Crusaders first Ohio Athletic Conference road match of the 2013 regular season.

Last season, the Polar Bears reached the NCAA Division III National Championship match, falling 5-1 to Messiah, after finishing atop the OAC with a 25-2-0 record in 2012.

After a scoreless first half of play, in which both teams combined for 15 shots, the Crusaders took the initial lead of the game shortly after halftime.

In the 52^nd minute, freshman Jacob Pulliam placed a textbook corner kick into the crowd of players, to which sophomore Josh Spaw headed into the net, giving Capital a 1-0 advantage.

The Crusaders continued their solid defensive play following their initial goal, allowing the Polar Bears to tally just one shot total the entire second half.

Then in the 78^th minute, Capital struck again to double its lead on Ohio Northern, as freshman Colton Phillips sent a shot into the box as senior Nick Eley and the Polar Bears goalkeeper charged a bouncing ball to which Eley got a piece of, sneaking it by the goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead.

Stellar ball control and smart passing led to the Crusaders protecting their 2-0 lead for the remainder of the match.

Leading the way for Capital was Spaw and Eley, scoring their first and fifth goals, respectively. Pulliam and Phillips each recorded their first assists of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Bob Weisgarber also helped locked down the net, saving all five shots on goal that he faced, en route to his fourth win of the season.

With the victory, Capital (4-4-3) picks up its first win in the last five games, while improving to 1-1 in the OAC.

Next match is set for Oct. 12 vs. Heidelberg at Bernlohr Stadium. First kick is set for 4:30 p.m.
