Men's Soccer Posts Second Straight OAC Victory

Box Score

COLUMBUS – The Capital University men's soccer team notched its second straight win with a 1-0 defeat of Heidelberg on Saturday afternoon.

Capital got on the board early in the 5th minute of play, as senior Nick Eley rebounded a loose ball in the box to junior Bobby Atkin who tapped the ball in, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.

Heading into halftime, the Crusaders held a one goal advantage, as four of their seven shots came on goal, while holding their opposition to just four shots, none of them coming on goal in the opening frame.

As the second half opened play, the Crusaders continued their defensive prowess, limiting the Student Princes to 14 shots with just four of them coming on goal.

An array of aggressive possessions for the Student Princes came toward the end of the second half, but to no avail, as the Crusaders defense stood strong.

One goal proved to be enough to ensure a Capital victory, as the Crusaders improved to 2-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Leading the way for the Crusaders was Atkin, netting his first goal of the season, while Eley tallied his first assist on the year.

Senior goalkeeper Bob Weisgarber anchored the Crusaders defense, stopping three shots on goal.

Next match for Capital (5-4-3, 2-1 OAC), is at Wilmington on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
