The Capital University men's soccer team opened the 2012 regular season Friday at Bernlohr Stadium, falling 1-0 against Wittenberg in the opening game of the two-day Fort Rapids Men's Soccer Invitational.

The contest marked the first loss for the Crusaders (0-1 overall) at Bernlohr since Nov. 2, 2010. Last season, Capital finished 5-0-1 in home games.

Capital had several chances to even the contest, including a rocket by sophomore R.G. Florey (Westerville, Ohio) that hit the left post from 20 yards out in the 79th minute. Senior Al Argyris (Centerville, Ohio) also had a good look from 20 yards in the 89th, but it faded just wide to the right.

The Tigers (1-0) tallied early and didn't look back, finding the back of the net on a two-on-one breakaway in the 13th minute.

The Crusaders were outshot 7-4 in the affair and committed 16 fouls compared to six for the Tigers. Capital held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Bob Weisgarber (Columbus, Ohio) tallied three saves in the defeat.

The Crusaders continue play in the Fort Rapids Invitational this Sunday against Emory & Henry (Va.). Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium. Wittenberg faces Mount Union at 4 p.m. in the tournament finale.
