Jenna Klopfenstein, a former Division I student-athlete and local soccer coach, enters her fifth year as an assistant coach with the Capital University’s women’s soccer program.
Klopfenstein (pronounced CLOP-fen-stine) joined Capital after spending the 2016 season as the varsity assistant girls soccer coach at Hilliard Davidson High School in Hilliard, Ohio. The Wildcats won the Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) title in her first year aiding the staff. In the offseason, Klopfenstein also serves as the head coach of the Club Ohio Hilliard U-17 girls soccer team, a position she still maintains, and is employed at Orthopedic One in Columbus as a physician assistant.
In three seasons as an assistant at Capital players have garnered 25 All-OAC accolades, five all-region honors, eight All-OSC awards, and 43 Academic All-OAC laurels. In each year, CU has won 10 or more games overall and six OAC contests. In two of those three years, Cap has placed second in the conference standings and earned a first-round bye in the OAC Tournament.
Klopfenstein played collegiately at Wright State University (Dayton, Ohio) as a midfielder for the Raiders. She was a four-year letter winner between 2007 and 2011, made 60 starts and appeared in 77 total contests. In the classroom, she earned Academic All-Ohio honors by consistently maintaining a 3.5 or higher grade-point average. In her freshman year, she scored two goals and posted three assists in 20 matches. That year, the Raiders went 13-6-1 overall and advanced to the Horizon League Tournament Semifinals for the first of four times. Over her four-year career, Wright State posted double-digit win totals each year and fed into an overall record of 45-31-4.
Klopfenstein began her coaching career at her high school alma mater, where she not only led her team to five league titles but also prepared the team to make five district final appearances. After moving to the Columbus area, she coached as an assistant for two years at Bishop Hartley before serving as assistant varsity coach at Hilliard Davidson last season, a team that won the OCC. In addition, Klopfenstein has been the head coach for various club programs: Club X, HFC, and Club Ohio Hilliard. Currently, she coaches for Club Ohio Hilliard.
During her prep playing days, Klopfenstein set multiple records at Northwestern High School, which still stand today. Those include goals scored in a season, assists in a season, and goals scored in a career. She was named Regional Player of the Year as a junior, and in 2012 the two-time all-state selection was inducted into the district’s athletic Hall of Fame.
Klopfenstein graduated summa cum laude with her bachelor’s degree in exercise biology from Wright State in 2011. She then went on to earn her master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Kettering Medical College in 2013. She currently resides in Bexley with her husband, Isaac, and their infant son.
