MARIETTA, Ohio – Capital University Volleyball endured its fifth straight loss after its 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 25-17) defeat at Marietta College on Tuesday night. Kirstin Jutte led Cap with 12 kills but errors and strong net play by the Pioneers prevented the Purple and White offense from finding a rhythm at Ban Johnson Arena.

Marietta collected 22 block assists and one solo block to take ownership of the net, comparing to Capital four total blocks. Capital stayed alive by racking up 12 service aces over the course of the match, including two by freshman Bryanna Masters which began the Crusaders' breakaway in the team's lone set win.

The host Pioneers outhit Capital in each of their three set wins and never dropped below .156. They topped out at .321 in the clinching fourth set, which led to a 25-17 fourth set win. They were led by Darcy Irish's 14 kills and .323 hit percentage. Emily Peters recorded a match-high 19 digs.

On the flip side, sophomore Kirsten Jutte (Fort Recovery, Ohio/Fort Recovery) set a new career high with 12 kills. Masters hit .312 behind six kills on 16 attempts and just one error. She and teammate Leighann Osborne each posted three aces.

Two of Capital's last three matches will be at home, but first comes the team's final road contest at John Carroll University (5-22, 1-5 OAC) on Saturday, Oct. 21. A win would help increase Capital's chances of advancing to the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament. John Carroll and Capital both have 1-5 conference records and are vying for the last spot in the tournament race.
