Darina Drozdova joined the women’s tennis program as its graduate assistant coach in January 2019 after a successful career as an NCAA Division II two-sport athlete.
Drozdova graduated from Clayton State University (Ga.) in 2017 with a degree in communication and media, and was a two-time Academic All-PBC (Peach Belt Conference) in both tennis and cross country. In 2016, Drozdova earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors as a track & field and cross country candidate.
She was a four-year letterwinner and two-year captain for the Lakers and over her career has multiple victories over individuals from Division II and NAIA top-40 programs across the country. By the end of her senior year, she elevated to number two singles, number one doubles (8-5) and played at the top spot twice (1-1). Twice she competed at the Southeast Regional College ITA Championships, once advancing to the quarter-final round (2016) and once making her way to the semifinals (2014). As a freshman, Drozdova went a perfect 7-0 in conference singles play as was the runner up at five singles.
Over her career, Drozdova competed in 72 tennis matches and nine cross country meets. She was a member of the CSU cross country team for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Drozdova, a native of Saint Petersburg, Russia, also participated in International Tennis Federation and Tennis Europe tournaments, and was a member of both the Russian and Finnish Tennis Federations. Prior to coming to Capital, she worked at the Midtown Athletic Club in Miami, Florida.
