Capital Triumphs Over John Carroll on Senior Day
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University's women's soccer team faced John Carroll University on a day in which Capital honored its 12 seniors. Cap made sure the opposing goalkeeper was under fire all match, getting off 27 shots.

John Carroll (6-5-6 overall, 3-2-2 OAC) took advantage of a miscue by Capital's (8-6-1, 5-1-1) goalkeeper in the ninth minute as the goalie moved forward to take the ball way from JCU's Bailey Fischer. Fischer avoided the goalie, who left the net exposed for an easy score.

The Blue Streaks managed to hold the lead for most of the first half until a flurry broke out between a JCU defender and a pair of Capital players. Chloe Brown (Monclova, Ohio) managed to get a piece of the ball, feeding it to Carlee Murry (Hilliard, Ohio) who kicked it into the net, just past the hands of JCU's Rhianna Guamera.

The game-winner was scored just four minutes later when a Blue Streak foul placed the ball, 25 yards out for a Claire Quinn (Coto de Caza., Calif.) free kick. Quinn placed the ball into the left-hand corner of the net, just out of reach of Guamera, who jumped in an attempt to keep the ball from finding its mark.

For the second-straight match, Capital's defense stood tall in the second half, led by Monique Hanayik (Sidney, Ohio) who put an end to multiple John Carroll scoring opportunities.

Alexis Brand (Orlando, Fla.) guarded Capital's goal for the whole match, making six saves. The victory is her first on the season.

Capital held advantages in shots (27-11), corner kicks (5-3), and fouls (6-7).

Capital hits the road for two matches next week, starting with Heidelberg University (6-8-2, 1-5) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. With the Ohio Athletic Tournament right around the corner, the Crusaders currently possess the second overall seed in a field of eight which puts them in position to earn a first-round bye as well as a home tournament game.
