COLUMBUS, Ohio – After nearly one month removed from its last competition, Capital Men's Tennis returned to the court and earned its first win of the season. The Crusaders took it to the Defiance University Yellow Jackets with a shutout victory at the Smart Center indoor courts on Wednesday night.
The Crusaders (1-3) made easy work of the Yellow Jackets in doubles play taking each match by at least four points. C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) and Santino DiMichaelangelo (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) took on Adam Swisher and Jared Schnee and walked away with an 8-4 victory out of the number one spot.
Graeme Green (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) paired up with John Roberts (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and defeated Nathan Principe and Eline Widman, 8-3. Hunter Walter (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and Ben Heiland (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) shutout their opponents in the third doubles flight.
Martin was tested in singles play but emerged the victory over Swisher, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5. Green followed up with his second victory in as many matches without surrendering a point to Schnee. DiMichaelangelo took care of business in the No. 3 spot in the lineup by defeating Widman, 6-3, 6-3.
Roberts and Principe squared up in the four-hole, where Capital reeled in another point behind his 6-1, 6-1 victory. Walter and Heiland then went on to roll through the fifth and sixth flights with matching 6-0, 6-0 victories to complete the shutout.
Cap's next action will open the OAC season when they play John Carroll University on March 24. First service from University Heights is set for 1 p.m.
