Steve Lesmes enters his third season at Capital University after previously serving as the head coach at Westerville North High School for the 2012-2013 seasons.

While on staff at Capital, Lesmes has helped the Crusaders produce12 Academic All-OAC honorees, nine All-OAC performers, two All-Ohio selections, and two All-Region award winners. Combined, the Crusaders have put together a win-loss record of 19-17-4 overall over the last two seasons and a 9-8-1 OAC ledger.

He also currently coaches the pre-academy and gold level teams with the Columbus Crew Juniors 17s and 18s boys teams. In addition to his head coaching responsibilities with the Crew, he serves as one of the lead directors for Crew youth camps throughout the summer that offer several small clinic and high school age level trainings.

Prior to his high school and club level head coaching jobs, Lesmes served as the associate head coach for three seasons at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, an NAIA Division I institution. During his time at MVNU, the Cougars were nationally ranked in the NAIA Top-25 on several occasions and made a trip to the NAIA Final Four. He had the privilege to coach four NAIA All-Americans and 18 Academic All-Americans in his tenure. During the 2009 season, Lesmes served as interim head coach, compiling a record of 3-0, including wins over two NCAA Division II Top-25 schools.

Lesmes was a four-year college scholarship player both at the NAIA Division I and NCAA Division III levels.  He was a four-year starter as a collegiate level player, earning all-conference honors each year. In 2005 he helped lead FSU to the Elite 8 of the NCAA National Tournament. Lesmes also had the opportunity to train professionally in Portugal in 2003-04.

He currently holds an NSCAA national coaching diploma and received his NSCAA collegiate professional development certificate.

Lesmes graduated from MVNU with his bachelor’s in sports management and then went on to earn his master’s in education in physical education and health.  He currently works at Horizon Science Academy in Columbus as the K-5 physical education/health teacher.

Lesmes and his wife, Christy, reside in the Pataskala area.
