The Capital University athletics department and two of its student groups took part in celebrating and recognizing the achievements and practices of Crusader student-athletes during NCAA Division III Week from April 7-13.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) kicked off the week with the first annual Capspy Awards, an award show originating from the idea of ESPN's The ESPYs (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly), on Sunday, April 6, at the Capital Center. Twelve award winners as well as athletic and academic All-Americans were recognized in front of nearly 200 student-athletes, coaches, administrators and other staff.
The Capital University Society of Sports Management (CUSSM) also contributed during the week with a piece entitled "20 for 20: Student-Athletes and Their Division III Experiences." Twenty different student-athletes representing all 20 of the institution's varsity sports answered questions relating to their experiences at Capital and at the Division III level.
The athletics department continued its "And Experience" initiative, rolling out six different "A Day in the Life Of …" on Capital's Instagram page. The accounts illustrate the uniquely satisfying experience of being both a student and an athlete that only a Division III institution can provide.
