NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association announced its 2017 NCAA Division III Scholar Athletes of the Year and Scholar Teams of the Year, and Capital Women’s Cross Country is bringing home both awards.
On the individual side, senior Hannah Westhoven (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) was honored as one of the 368 women that earned the award. To qualify for the individual accolade, Westhoven must have had a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better and finish in the top 25 percent at Capital’s regional championship meet. Westhoven placed 40th out of 247 runners at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 11 and set a new personal record of 23:30.1.
In addition to Westhoven’s honor, the entire Capital team was one of 221 women’s teams to receive the team award this year. Capital finished with a 3.49 team GPA. To be eligible for the team honor, the team must have competed at an NCAA regional meet and have a 3.10 cumulative GPA.
