DELAWARE, Ohio– Saturday afternoon, Capital University Women`s Cross Country cohosted the Columbus State/Capital Invitational with Columbus State Community College. Capital took the first place team finish ahead of Notre Dame College and Urbana University, while nabbing eight of the 15 top finishes.
Sophomore Mackenzie Meyers (Ashville, Ohio) paced the women across the line in 24:02:00. Myers was not only the winner of the meet but also had a career-best race shaving off two minutes of her previous times. The Ashville, Ohio native is now in the number six spot in Capital`s top-20 6k times.
Junior Hannah Westhoven (Napolean, Ohio) was right behind finishing in a time of 24:08:00.
Senior Sarah Rini (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington North) was the next harrier clocking in at a personal record time of 24:10:00.
Seniors Gretchen Sauder (Mansfield, Ohio) and Al Corrigan (Burton, Ohio) finished the course clocking in at 24:53:00 and 25:05:00, respectively, earning fifth and sixth place in a field of 31 competitors.
Capital University (17) took first place. Notre Dame College (54) took second, and rounding out the three teams was Urbana University (65).
The race gave runners the first chance to preview the course that will be used for the upcoming OAC Cross Country Championship, an event Capital will host on Oct. 29.
The next opportunity to catch Capital University Women's Cross Country will be at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Cedarville University (Cedarville, Ohio) on Sept. 30.
