Crusaders Compete at Flyer 5K

COLUMBUS – The Capital University women's cross country team competed at the Flyer 5K hosted by the University of Dayton on Saturday, marking the first meet of the 2014 season for the Crusaders.

A total of eight qualifying teams competed in the race, including fellow Division III schools Denison and Wittenberg, as well as Division I schools Cleveland State, Dayton, Louisville, Northern Kentucky, Ohio State, and Wright State.

Capital earned a pair of spots in the top 50 competitors in the race, as sophomore Gretchen Sauder (Mansfield, Ohio) and freshman Hannah Westhoven (Napolean, Ohio) led the Crusaders.

Sauder paced the Crusaders with a time of 21.31, while Westhoven crossed the finish line at 22.17.7, earning 45th and 50th place finishes, respectively.

Sophomore Alexandra Corrigan (Burton, Ohio) followed with a time of 22.32.5, good for 54th place, as freshman Hayley Bishop (West Carrollton, Ohio) rounded out the Crusaders' pack at 25.20.9.

Capital's next meet is set for Sept. 6 at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio.
