Volleyball Downed by Muskingum in Three

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team lost on the road to nationally-ranked Muskingum University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-6, 25-13) on Tuesday night in New Concord, Ohio. After tonight's loss at the Performance Court, the Crusaders are now 9-18 overall and 0-6 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.


The Fighting Muskies (22-2, 5-1 OAC) entered the match ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. They are one of two Ohio Athletic Conference schools to be ranked in the top 25 and one of four to have received votes or be ranked. Capital has now played two of those teams, with two more yet to be played this season.


  • Muskingum hit at a .330 clip in the match, committing just seven errors on 88 attempts over the three-set affair. Conversely, Capital hit -0.029 (21-24-103).
  • The Fighting Muskies led in the block department (6-3) and in digs (51-39).
  • Senior OH Kirsten Jutte led the Crusaders with six kills on the offensive side of the ball.
  • Erin O'Connell led the team in digs (14) while Isabel Jimenez tossed out 20 assists.
  • Muskingum's Maddie McGee (9) and Brooke Fatheree (7) led the match in kills. Fatheree hit .438 and did not commit an error on 16 attempts while also chipping in 11 digs.


The Crusaders have three matches remaining in the regular season, two of which are at home. Capital will host No. 11 Ohio Northern University (20-4, 5-0 OAC) in its next action on Saturday, October 26 at 1 p.m.


Capital Volleyball will celebrate the careers of Kirsten Jutte and Carlie Wilson on Senior Day, next Tuesday, October 29. The Crusaders will host Wilmington College that evening at 7 p.m.
