WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team took in a 3-1 loss on the road at Wilmington College at Hermann Court on Tuesday night. The Fightin' Quakers defeated Capital by the scores of 26-24, 25-18, 23-25, and 25-16. Delanie Nahikian tallied her first career double-double after leading the Crusaders in both digs and kills on the evening.
Not only did freshman Delanie Nahikian (Allegan, Mich,/Allegan) serve as the team and match leader in kills and digs in Tuesday's match but she also set career highs in both categories. Nahikian recorded 14 kills on 39 attempts (.128) and collected 22 digs, six more than the next nearest player on either side.
Capital held leads in every set at or near the midway point of every set in the match but was only able to take away a win in the third. Unforced errors served as the major difference between the two teams as Wilmington's offense did not pop off the stat line. The Crusaders committed 39 attack errors compared to the Quakers' 24, had 10 reception errors, and 13 service errors to the hosts' five.
There was only 1.7 percent difference between the two teams' hit percentages and Capital actually finished with 14 more kills than the Quakers. However, Wilmington held an 11-5 advantage at the net to help make up for the difference.
Freshman Miranda Jordan (Springfield, Ohio/Emmanuel Christian Academy) had a solid performance by leading the Crusaders in hit percentage (.174) and had nine kills on 23 attempts. She was one kills away from achieving her first double-double after also tallying 10 digs.
Karrah Wind led the Quakers with 11 kills and six block assists, while her teammate Jililan Wesco held the team lead for digs (16).
Capital (0-24, 0-8 OAC) has two matches remaining, both at home. The Crusaders will host their archrival, Otterbein University, on Friday night at 7 p.m. Cap will then celebrate Senior Day prior to its match with Denison University on Saturday, which is set to begin at 1 p.m.
