Volleyball Falters on First Day of Bengal Classic

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Capital University Volleyball's struggles continued on Friday night when the Crusaders lost to Case Western Reserve University on the first day of the Buffalo State Bengal Classic. The Spartans defeated Capital, 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-18), at The Sports Arena, dropping Capital to 0-9 on the season.

Capital committed 26 attack errors and eight service errors, which the Spartans used to cruise to a straight-set victory. Case Western Reserve (6-3) also tallied six blocks while Capital was unable to put pressure on the net, defensively.

Freshman Delanie Nahikian (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) posted a team-high seven kills, while teammate Miranda Jordan (Springfield, Ohio/Emmanuel Christian Academy) recorded 13 digs to lead the squad.

Case Western's Karley King led the team's offense with nine kills and a .261 hit percentage. Haley Sims was key in the Spartan's performance with seven kills, a .312 hit percentage, four block assists, and one solo block.

Capital's Saturday will be busy with two games, back to back, against the University of Rochester (N.Y.) and Allegheny College (Pa.). The Crusaders and U of R will meet at 1 p.m., and then will play the Gators directly afterward.
