GAMBIER, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team traveled up the road to Gambier, Ohio where the Kenyon College Ladies awaited at the Kenyon Athletic Center. The Ladies successfully defending Tomsich Arena with a three-set victory over the Crusaders on Tuesday night.
The Crusaders' offensive struggles continued into Tuesday night after the team hit just .052 compared to the Ladies' .453 hit percentage. Kenyon (7-1) ran out to a 2-0 lead with 25-13 and 25-16 wins out of the gate. Capital (0-8) put up a fight in the third frame, keeping within two points of the hosts until the latter stages of the set. The Ladies then featured four different hitters as part of a 6-1 run that helped them separate from the Crusaders, leading to a 25-18 match-clinching victory.
Capital's Leighann Osborne (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester) led the Crusaders with nine kills on 17 attempts. With her lone error, she accumulated a .471 hit percentage.
Freshman Jenay Kocsis (Marysville, Ohio/Fairbanks) put forth 12 of the team's 23 assists plus a team-high seven digs.
Kenyon also held an advantage over Capital with six total blocks (3 solo) to one and committed just three attack errors over the course of the match.
Capital's next action will take place at the Buffalo State Bengal Challenge this weekend. Capital will open with Case Western Reserve University on Friday, September 14 at 7 p.m. and then return on Saturday for two matches against the University of Rochester (N.Y.) and Allegheny (Pa.).
