Capital Volleyball Tabbed to Finish Eighth in OAC Poll

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference's volleyball coaches announced the results of their annual preseason poll on Tuesday and have selected Capital University Volleyball to finish eighth in the conference. The Crusaders garnered 23 total points.

Ohio Northern University leads the ten-team pack with 79 points and seven of the ten first-place votes. Otterbein University slotted in just behind ONU with 74 points and the remaining three first-place votes. The University of Mount Union was predicted to place third with 62 points.

Heidelberg University, Muskingum University and Baldwin Wallace University occupy the next three spots with 55, 51 and 49 points, respectively. The John Carroll University Blue Streaks earned the seventh spot with 28 points. Following Capital are Marietta College with 19 points and Wilmington College with 10 points.

The Crusaders will be one of the youngest teams in the conference this season with two seniors, three juniors, six sophomores and 10 freshmen. Leighann Osborne returns for her sophomore season after finishing second on the team with 217 kills in 2017. Sophomore setter Morgan Tripp is also back to help initiate the Crusader attack after recording 558 assists last year.

Capital will hit the ground running in 2018 by co-hosting the Capital-Otterbein Classic. The opening match of the season will be held in Westerville against Hanover College (Ind.) on Aug. 31 before playing two matches in The Capital Center on Sept. 1. OAC season opens on Friday, Sept. 28 at Baldwin Wallace. The team's first conference match at home will be held on Oct. 6 against John Carroll.
