COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite a valiant effort, Capital University Volleyball (9-20, 1-8 OAC) was unable to secure a win on the final day of the regular season in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-16) loss to Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (26-5, 4-5 OAC) started the afternoon on the right foot by winning the first two points of the first set and they never looked back from there. BW never trailed in the first set and won the opening game 25-12.
The second set started off much better for Capital and the Crusaders jumped out to a 5-2 lead. Capital led 10-6 at one point but then the Yellow Jackets started to put together a few scoring runs of their own. A 6-1 BW run gave them the lead at 12-11 but Capital came back to take a 13-12 advantage. After that, though, BW went on a 5-0 run and the Yellow Jackets didn't relinquish the lead again, winning the second set 25-18.
The Crusaders started the third set by taking the lead and put together some runs of their own to make BW work for the set win. Capital scored four unanswered points to tie the set at 9-9 but a 7-0 BW run effectively sealed the match. Capital earned four points in a row to make the score 19-15 but Baldwin Wallace ended the match on a 6-1 run.
Alicia Lortcher led the match with 10 kills for Baldwin Wallace.
Senior Kasey Parkhurst (Castalia, Ohio / Margaretta) led the Crusaders with eight kills and fellow senior Graysan Braun (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern) added seven in their final collegiate match. Parkhurst also had eight digs.
