WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Capital University Volleyball fell victim to Otterbein University at The Rike Center to open Homecoming Weekend. The Purple and White fell to the Cardinals in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-12) on Friday night.
Otterbein (16-1, 2-0 OAC) came out swinging with great success, beginning with a first set in which they hit .229. Those mark increased from that point on.
Five of Bryanna Masters' team-high nine kills came in the second set, arguably Cap's most successful of the three. Tied 13-13, Otterbein went on an eight-point run to fuel its set win. The Crusaders still managed to hit .233 despite falling 25-21.
In two of the three sets, Capital hit .000 with as many kills as it had errors, and finished with a .077 overall attack percentage for the match.
The Cardinals were led by Hadley Sterett's 15 kills and nine digs, while her teammate Morgan Lowenkamp had 14 kills, seven digs and hit .632 on the evening.
Capital (8-10, 0-1 OAC) will now engage in a tri-match with Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio on Saturday. Cap will play the MVNU Cougars at the Kenyon Athletic Center at 12 p.m., and then follow by playing the host, Kenyon, at 2 p.m.
