WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Capital University Volleyball fell to 1-3 on the season following a pair of straight-set losses on day two of the Otterbein Volleyball Fall Classic. The Purple and White lost to Washington & Jefferson College and North Park University inside The Rike Center on Saturday afternoon.
MATCH 1 – Washington & Jefferson defeats Capital, 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 27-25)
Capital battled tough against the President in their first match of the day, twice forcing extra points to be played despite the loss. Senior Kasey Parkhurst (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta) put forth another stellar performance, backed by a team-high 16 kills and her second double-double of the season.
The Purple and White broke set point once when Parkhurst put down one of her many kills in the match, and a Presidents attack error tied the match, but Cap could not keep the momentum going as Washington & Jefferson won each of the next two point to claim the set.
Capital held the advantage throughout the second set, but the Presidents chipped away at the lead and then went on a 4-1 run to end the set on three straight kills. On the verge of victory in the third, the Presidents broke set point for Cap when trailing 24-22. They came back to win the match by taking the third, 27-25.
Madison Lydic (17) and Abbey Eich (15) each put up double-digit kill counts to lead W&J in the match.
Parkhurst added 12 digs for her second double-double in as many days. She also led the team with three block assists.
MATCH 2 – North Park defeats Capital, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-12)
Capital's hitting was stifled at the net by North Park after being outblocked, 8-1, leading to a .050 hit percentage in the match.
Parkhurst managed to still collect more than 10 kills for the third time this season, finishing with 11. Masters ended the day with eight more kills on 20 attempts and just three errors (.250). Cap committed 23 errors and had nine reception errors, leading to the straight set loss.
North Park added to its strong net game by hitting .333 for the match, led by a trio of players that finished with eight kills. Niki Ahlstrand was one of those players, and also added five block assists and one solo block.
Following the match, the Otterbein Volleyball Fall Classic All-Tournament Team was announced. Parkhurst served as Capital's selection for the honor. In four matches, she tallied 49 kills (3.77 k/s), hit .112, had five service aces, and pulled together 33 digs.
