Volleyball Handed Loss at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team lost in three sets to Heidelberg University inside Seiberling Gymnasium, Tuesday night. The Purple and White were beaten 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 by the Student Princes and are now 5-21 overall, 1-7 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Heidelberg (19-8, 7-1 OAC) broke away from Cap to take the opening frame after going on a 6-0 run to end the first set. Only two of those points were by way of a Capital error, and Laura Schrag posted two of her six kills in that span.

The second set was more even-keeled, with neither team holding more than a three-point advantage at any point. However, a pair of Capital errors at the tail end of the second set gifted the Student Princes a 2-0 advantage heading into the third. Heidelberg then ran away with the match, building an 11-3 lead with an 8-0 run. Capital was unable to recover and dropped the third by 10 points.

Cap was led offensively by senior Courtney McCracken (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic) and her nine kills. She also posted seven digs, second-most on the team.

Cap attempted to spread the ball around with four players getting at least 16 attack attempts. Senior Hannah Ewart (Wichita, Kan.) posted the best kill percentage at .263, behind eight kills and just three errors.  Freshman setter Kirsten Jutte dished out 28 assists, two service aces, and six digs.
