COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team was in action Saturday morning at the Capital Center as they took on Albion College. Cap fell in straight sets (25-14, 25-23, and 25-14), Becca Kapavik led the way with eight kills.
In the first set, Capital fell victim to runs by Albion. The Brits went on four runs of four or more points in the first set. Cap managed to fight off four set points before Albion won the set 25-14. Junior Becca Kapavik (Johnstown, Ohio/ Newark Catholic) and senior Kirsten Nickles (Loudonville, Ohio) led the way for Cap with two kills each. Freshman Kirsten Jutte (Fort Recovery, Ohio) led Capital with four digs.
The second set was a back-and-forth set. Both teams were able to keep each other from going on runs. Albion recorded the last three points of the set to win, 25-23. Cap was led by senior Courtney McCracken (Newark, Ohio/ Newark Catholic) and senior Kristen Bender (Fremont, Ohio) with three kills a piece. Freshman Jaelin Rios led the set with eight digs.
The Crusaders fell behind early in the third set, after the Brits went on a 9-0 run. Capital battled back and cut the lead to 21-14, before Albion went on a 4-0 run to end the set and match. Kapavik led the Crusaders with four kills in the third set. Rios picked up five more digs to pave the way for Cap.
Kapavik led Capital with eight kills in the match. McCracken finished with six kills and 11 digs. Rios led Cap with 14 kills.
Capital falls to 4-15 overall on the season. Cap returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 4, as they travel to Wilmington College. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
