COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Volleyball had its recent run of success come to a halt when the nationally-ranked Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University defeated them in straights sets on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders fell by scored of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-18 at The Capital Center.
Capital hit just .065 as a team, committing 24 attack errors to combine with eight reception errors when receiving ONU serves. Ellie Gillespie led ONU with 12 kills and hit .310 individually.
Sophomore Graysan Braun (Springfield, Ohio) led the Crusaders with 10 kills and hit a team-best .368.
Senior Katie Weilbacher (Grove City, Ohio) had a team-high 15 assists while sophomore Caitlin McDivitt (Cortland, Ohio) posted seven. Sophomore Jessica Winstel (Milford, Ohio) added a team-high 15 digs.
Ohio Northern (19-4, 5-0 OAC) had a total of six team blocks behind eight block assists and two solo blocks. Ashley Borchers and Haley Potters each had one solo and two block assists.
Ohio Northern entered the match ranked No. 22 in Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The Crusaders (6-19, 1-4 OAC) will gear up for a road trip to Marietta College on Oct. 20.
