COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team played host to the University of Mount Union Raiders on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders were unable to keep pace with the Purple Raiders, falling 25-17, 25-10, 25-11.
In the first set, with the score at 10-8 in Mount Union's favor, the Raiders put together a 4-0 run that was aided by two hitting errors by the Crusaders. Mount Union went on to score the final six points in the set, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
Outside hitter Kasey Parkhurst (Castalia, Ohio) led the Crusaders with eight kills and 8.5 points on the day. Becca Kapavik (Johnstown, Ohio) turned in four kills on 18 total attacks. Katie Weilbacher (Grove City, Ohio) dished out 14 assists.
For Mount Union, Brook Knollman and Morgan Chapman finished with 10 and 11 kills, respectively. Knollman fired off 23 total attacks, giving her a 39.1 kill percentage. Three Raiders put up double digit assists numbers as Riley Schenk ended the day with 19 while Allison Baird and Kelly Johnson had 11.
Mount Union doubled Capital in the attack category with 42. The Purple Raiders played strong defense, recording 64 digs compared to Capital's 49.
The Crusaders return to action at Muskingum University on Tuesday, October 6 at 7 p.m.
