Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Denison

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Denison University played spoiler to the Capital University volleyball team's home opening match inside The Capital Center on Wednesday night. The Big Red turned down the Crusaders, 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-21), sending them out with a 1-4 overall record.

Capital again struggled to get its offense going, hitting at just a .093 clip as a team over the course of the match. The Crusaders spread the ball around, allowing four different players to attempt 10 or more attacks. Sophomore Kasey Parkhurst (Castalia, Ohio) led the Crusaders with 10 kills on 31 attempts (.161). She also added six digs and one block assist.

Sophomore Caitlin McDivitt (Cortland, Ohio) tossed up 16 assists, but five ball handling errors hampered Capital's offensive chances.

Sophomore Becca Kapavik (Johnstown, Ohio) threw down five kills to combine with her two solo blocks and one block assist, leading the Crusaders defensively at the net.

Sophomore Jessica Winstel (Milford, Ohio) tallied 15 digs, serving as the Crusaders' libero.

Denison (4-2) was led by Kenzie Kuhn and her 10 kills on 21 attempts (.429). She also shared the team lead in blocks with one solo and two assists. Kaileigh Poe recorded 30 of the Big Red's 40 team assists.

Capital (1-4) will compete at the Rose-Hulman Invitational this weekend. They begin their stay by taking on the hosts, RHIT, and Franklin College on Saturday, Sept. 12. They will conclude the weekend by taking on Anderson College (Ind.) and Centre College.
