Volleyball Swept on Final Day of Otterbein Tournament

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team struggled on the offensive side of the ball on Saturday, leading to a pair of 3-0 losses on the final day of this year's Otterbein Tournament. Capital lost to host Otterbein University and Case Western Reserve University.

MATCH 1 – L, 3-0 vs. Case Western Reserve

Capital (1-3) began its day against the Spartans and fell 25-8, 25-14, 25-13 in its opening action. The Crusaders hit in the negative in all three sets and no player finished with more than four kills.

Conversely, Case hit at a .274 clip as a team, led by Carolyn Bogart's 12 kills on 28 attempts.

Sophomore Jessica Winstel (Milford, Ohio) led Capital with nine digs while junior Courtney McCracken (Newark, Ohio) had four kills and seven digs.


MATCH 2 – L, 3-0 vs. Otterbein

McCracken again led Capital in kills (6) during its second match of the day, but Capital still struggled to get its offense going, especially with senior setter Katie Weilbacher out due to injury. The final score of the match was 25-10, 25-16, 25-14 in Otterbein's favor.

 Capital committed 24 hitting errors against the Cardinals while Morgan Lowenkamp aided the Otterbein defense with four solo blocks and one block assist. Lowenkamp also added eight kills, good for a share of the Cardinal lead.

Caitlin McDivitt (Cortland, Ohio) passed out 12 assists and eight digs in the loss.


Capital exits the Otterbein Tournament with a 1-3 overall record. They will be back in action on Wednesday night, at home, against Denison University. First service is set for 7 p.m. from inside The Capital Center.
