Volleyball Taken in Three Twice

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University women's volleyball team lost two matches in straight sets as part of a tri-match with the University of Mount Union and Hope College.

The defending Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champion Purple Raiders rolled in its 25-16, 25-12, 25-15 victory over the Crusaders in Capital's first match of the day. The Crusaders were unable to get its offense going, committing 25 errors to its 23 kills in the match.

Kristin Bender (Fremont, Ohio) led the Crusaders with seven kills. Bender also had three block assists and one solo block. Kelly Leonard (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a team-high 21 digs to lead the defense.

Bender equaled that offensive output in the team's second match against Hope College. She hit at a .467 clip, converting on 7-of-15 attempts with zero errors.

While the team had a much better hit percentage in their match against Hope and matched the Flying Dutch's block totals, the Crusaders dropped the match in three games. The Flying Dutch were led by Anna Lynch and Jenna Grasmeyer, each posting 10-plus kills while Hope hit .376 as a team.

Courtney McCracken (Newark, Ohio) led Capital in digs with 11 against Hope. She had a two-match total of 25 for the day.

Capital's next match will be at home on Oct. 7 against Muskingum University with a 7 p.m. first service. They are now 8-15 overall and 0-2 in OAC play.
