Capital Set to Compete for Titles While Hosting the 2018 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The top competition in the Ohio Athletic Conference will converge on The Capital Center this Friday and Saturday when Capital University Track & Field hosts the 2018 OAC Indoor Championships, and Crusaders will compete to win a conference title.

On the men’s side, Capital runners will compete in seven running events over the course of the two-day championship.

Senior Derek Knabe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) will run in three events, taking part in the 4,000-meter distance medley, 4x400-meter relay and 800-meter runs. Nicholas Santos (Annandale, Va.) will also run in the 4x400, the 4x200-meters and the 500-meter dash. Santos holds the second-best 500-meter time in the conference with a mark of 1:07.47. Mason Trezise (Eagar, Ariz./Round Valley) will take a turn in the 60-meter hurdles and will also compete on both relay teams. Kyle Farley (Canton, Mich./Lutheran – Westland) will run the 200-meter dash.

Andrew Rus (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield), Jonas Pyle (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge) and Aaron Fox (Commercial Point, Ohio/Teays Valley) will also compete in the 4,000-meter distance medley. Freshman Noah Meeker (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) will round out the 4x200 relay team and Corbin Brown (East Sparta, Ohio/Sandy Valley) completes the 4x400 squad.

In the field events, Logan Allison (Gallipolis, Ohio/Gallia Academy) will be busy taking part in three events; the long, triple and high jumps. He has won the long jump three times this season and the triple jump twice. Allison has the best recorded triple jump in the conference this year (14.42 meters) and second-best long jump (6.97 meters). His only time competing in the high jump was a win on Jan. 19. Allison was the OAC indoor champion in the triple jump in 2017. Meeker will also take part in the long jump and junior John Seman (Ashland, Ohio/Hillsdale) will join Allison in the high jump.

Jason Coon (Bernville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley), Capital’s senior thrower will take his shot in the shot put. Coon has won the shot at five meets this year and came in third in the sixth. His personal-best throw of 16.46 meters, recorded at last week’s Rick Meindl Last Call, ranks second in the conference. Freshman Josh Miller (Botkins, Ohio/Botkins) will compete as well and has the sixth-best throw in the conference at 15.17 meters.

In the weight throw, senior Colby Owen (Perryville, Md./Perryville) owns the tenth-best throw in the conference, a 15.87-meter mark achieved at the Rick Meindl Last Call.

On the women’s team, reigning OAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week Taylor Manivanh (Grove City, Ohio/Central Crossing) will compete in five events; the long jump, triple jump, 60-meter dash, the 4x200 and 4x400. Last week, Manivanh set a personal record in the long jump with a leap of 5.52 meters and that mark is the best in the conference.

Three runners will go in the 60-meter hurdles with Niamani Mayes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills), Olivia Quinter (Fort Loramie, Ohio/Fort Loramie) and Emily Hilt (Delaware, Oiho/Buckeye Valley) all scheduled to run. Mayes holds the fourth-best conference time with a finish of 9.59 seconds at the Jessica Starks Open.

Hunter Mouser (London, Ohio/London) will race individually in the 200- and 400-meter dashes and will also be part of the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams and the 4,000-meter distance medley. The 4x200 relay team will consist of Mouser, Manivanh, Quinter, and Mayes. The 4x400 team is made up of Larkin Joseph (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia), Mouser, Manivanh, and Quinter.

Senior Hannah Westhoven (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) will try to go the distance in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs while Joseph will run in the 1,000-meter and Mackenzie Meyers (Ashville, Ohio/Teays Valley) will compete in the 3k with Westhoven.

A trio of Crusaders will compete in the triple jump with Elona Greenhoff (Eastlake, Ohio/North), Hilt and Blair Bryant (London, Ohio/Madison Plains). Greenhoff’s mark of 1.60 meters at the Rick Meindl Last Call is the third-best result in the conference this season.

The shot put and weight throws will also each have three Capital participants. Kassie Lee (Piqua, Ohio/Lehman Catholic) and Gracie Pesicka (Parma, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) will throw in both competitions. Ally Cummings (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) will give it a go in the shot put and Taylor King (Pleasantville, Ohio/Liberty Union) will compete in the weight throw.

The championships will begin at noon on Friday, Feb. 23 and continue at 10 a.m. on Feb. 24. Running events will being at 4:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
