NEW ORLEANS, La. – On Monday, May 22, 2017 the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its nation-wide all-region lists. Capital University senior Ashley Freshkorn and freshman Taylor Manivanh were named All-Great Lakes Region for top performances in their respective events this outdoor track & field season.
The five best individuals in each event from each region – as well the region's top three relay teams – earned all-region distinction. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, Great Lakes, Mideast, Midwest, New England, South/Southeast and West – match those used during cross country and the indoor track & field season. A total of 935 men and 945 women earned all-region honors for their efforts.
Ashley Freshkorn (Columbus, Ohio/Hamilton Township) is now a two-time all-region selection in the women's shot put. The senior was named all-region following the indoor season in which she became an Ohio Athletic Conference shotput champion. Freshkorn fell to an injury before this year's OAC Outdoor Championships at a time she favored to repeat as conference champion. Her top outdoor mark in the shotput prior to the injury was measured at 13.03 meters (42-09) at the Cedarville Yellow Jacket Invitational, setting a new outdoor personal best.
Taylor Manivanh (Grove City, Ohio/Central Crossing) wraps up a fantastic freshman season with her first career all-region honor. She earned All-Great Lakes Region recognition in the triple jump, an event she earned runner-up honors at this spring's OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Her second-place mark was measured at a personal best 11.21 meters (36-09 ½). She is also a two-time all-conference honoree from the indoor season.
