NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the All-Region honorees for the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season on Monday. Capital University junior Logan Allison earned four different all-region accolades, while Hunter Mouser and Ashley Freshkorn highlighted the women's team with one honor, each.
Junior jump and sprint specialist Logan Allison (Gallipolis, Ohio/Gallia Academy) was one of three male student-athletes to earn four all-region honors in a single season this year, doing so in the 60-meter dash (60.95), high jump (2.00m), long jump (7.09m), and triple jump (14.44m). What separates Allison from his competitors that matched him is that he is the only of the three to earn all four Great Lakes all-region honors in an individual event. Case Western Reserve University's Nathan Wahner and Christopher Newport University's Ryan Scott each had at least one all-region honor come by way of a relay team performance.
Allison now holds Capital records in the 60 meters, long jump and triple jump behind his marks recorded this season.
Senior Ashley Freshkorn (Columbus, Ohio/Hamilton Township) put forth a top-25 show and won the Ohio Athletic Conference championship in the women's shot put, en route to be named All-Great Lakes Region. It is her first all-region honor of her career. She currently ranked No. 23 in the country behind a season-best toss of 13.53 meters.
Junior Hunter Mouser (London, Ohio/London) joins Freshkorn as an all-region first-timer having done so in the women's 400-meter dash. She finished the season ranked 11th in the country behind a season-best time of 57.07 seconds, which also set a new school record in the event.
Freshkorn and Mouser both represent the first all-region accolades to be earned by a member of the women's track and field team since 2012 (Emma McCarron '12).
Allison and Mouser will head to North Central College in Naperville, Ill. to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. -- More info --
