COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Capital University women's track and field team finished up their first day at the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships at Williams Stadium, Friday afternoon. Capital will head into day two in ninth place out of 10 teams. The team is in line with the predicted 7th place poll result, but may beat the odds with a whole day of events still to score.
The 4x800 meter relay team set a school record of 9:53.94. The team included: freshman pair Larkin Joseph (New Philadelphia, Ohio) and Sami Koester (Grandview Heights, Ohio), and junior pair Caitlyn Tullous (Utica, Ohio) and Sarah Rini (Pickerington, Ohio). The record was previously held by the team of T. Blake, K. Baker, A. Hartman, S. Gaines with a time of 9:56.73 set in 2007.
Sophomore Chelsea Carpenter (Cincinnati, Ohio) threw a season best throw of 40.47 meters (132'9) earning her an All-OAC honor for the first time.
Sophomore Hunter Mouser (London, Ohio) clocked in at 1:00.25 in the 400 Dash prelims grabbing one of the last spots going into finals.
After day one, Mount Union University is in first place with 60 points. In second place is Otterbein University with 53 points. Wrapping up the top three teams is Ohio Northern University with 49.5 points.
Capital will head back into competition on Saturday to begin the final day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships at Williams Stadium (Wilmington, Ohio).
