MARIETTA, Ohio - The Capital University women's track and field team has finished the first day of the Ohio Athletic Championships at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center (Marietta, Ohio), Friday afternoon. The Crusaders are currently ranked eighth going into the second day.
Junior Ashley Freshkorn (Columbus, Ohio/Hamilton Township) added a point to the Crusaders team score in the weight throw by making it to finals and throwing 13.69 meters (45-9). Her toss was good enough for an 8th-place finish.
Junior Shalynn Dornbush (Hopedale, Ohio) ran a time of 1:04.77 in the 400-meter dash preliminaries, allowing her to advance to the finals where she has the potential to run a top-placing time.
The women's distance medley team showed up again this week with a team personal best of 13:39.27. The relay team included the junior pair of Caitlyn Tulloss (Utica, Ohio) and Alexandra Corrigan (Burton, Ohio ), sophomore Sami Koester (Grandview Heights, Ohio), and freshman Larkin Joseph (New Philadelphia, Ohio).
Capital is currently eighth of out nine teams after day one's conclusion. Otterbein University (44) holds the lead in the team standings, followed by Ohio Northern University (39) and the University of Mount union (38).
Day two of the OAC Indoor Championships will commence at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
