ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University women's track and field team completed the final day of the 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday evening. The Crusaders took eighth place overall with multiple individual successes standing out.
Freshman Abby Bodeker (Vermillion, Ohio) claimed three points with her sixth-place finish in the women's 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:09.92. She set a new personal best in that event during her preliminary qualification, timing out at 1:09.88.
Sophomore Ashley Freshkorn (Columbus, Ohio/Hamilton Township) and freshman Amber Thomas (Cleveland, Ohio) combined to score four points between them in the women's shot put event. Yesterday, the duo took seventh and eighth, respectively, in the discus throw. On Saturday, Freshkorn took sixth overall (12.21m, 40-0.75) while Thomas placed eighth (11.34m, 37-2.50). Thomas set a new PR with her best throw coming on her fourth attempt.
Also setting a new PR was sophomore Gretchen Sauder (Mansfield, Ohio) in the 10,000-meter run (41:52.75).
The Capital 4x400-meter relay team scored points toward the team's total, placing seventh. The tandem of Bodeker, Samantha Wentz, Rachel Rus, and Shaylynn Dornbrush combined to finish the event in 4:17.77.
The Crusaders equaled last year's team placement by finishing eighth overall in this year's Championship. Capital tallied 19 points, edging out Marietta (18) and Muskingum (17).
The University of Mount Union took the team title (199) with Otterbein University placing second (123.50) by just one-half of a point over Ohio Northern University (123).
